Retford is the one visiting-care town where hospital care runs through Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. Serious cases go to Bassetlaw Hospital in Worksop or Doncaster Royal Infirmary.
Retford Hospital itself, on North Road, is part of the same trust. It does not take admissions. It runs outpatient clinics, therapies and diagnostics: physiotherapy, speech therapy, audiology, chiropody and medical imaging. It also runs a continence service, intermediate care, and community nursing with equipment loans.

First, the county council’s occupational therapy team works out what is needed. It then sends the work to Bassetlaw’s adaptations team. They check the plan is reasonable and practicable.
Any adaptation likely to cost more than £10,000 goes to a Disabled Facilities Panel. The panel checks it is the most cost-effective way to meet the need. That adds time. Smaller jobs go through the district’s Handy Person and Adaptation Service. Care often has to start before adaptations finish, and we can cover that gap.
