Health and GP context in Southwell
Most families here use Southwell Medical Centre on Bishops Drive, NG25 0EP.
For inpatient care, Southwell families typically use King’s Mill Hospital in Sutton-in-Ashfield. Newark Hospital handles some outpatient appointments and runs an Urgent Treatment Centre until 10.30pm. It has no A&E, so emergencies go to King’s Mill or Nottingham.

Newark and Sherwood District Council handles adaptations to the home. Grab rails, ramps, door alterations and larger works. The occupational therapist assessment that triggers the work is still booked through the county council on the same number.
Minor adaptations are targeted within 7 working days of referral, and major ones at 30 days, though some take longer. A Handy Person Adaptation Service covers smaller jobs for residents aged 60 and over, or living with a disability.
What home care costs in Southwell
£31 an hour, £17 for a 30 minute visit, £2.50 travel. Bank holidays and Christmas Day carry a premium rate.
Care is VAT exempt. Families pay privately or through a Direct Payment, and NHS Continuing Healthcare covers the full cost where someone qualifies.
