Live-in care is available across every district of Nottinghamshire, from Worksop down to West Bridgford and out to the Lincolnshire border. A directly employed carer lives in the home and supports daily life through the day and overnight. From £1,800 a week for one person, £2,250 for a couple, VAT exempt.

Why live-in care reaches further than visiting care
Our hourly visiting service works to a travel radius, because carers drive between calls. Live-in care doesn’t work that way. The carer lives in the client’s home for the length of the placement. The distance between your house and our Newark office makes no difference to the care that arrives each morning.
That is why live-in care covers the whole county while visiting care covers eight towns.
One practical point. Every live-in carer has a protected daily break. Where the client is safe on their own for that period, nothing more is needed and we can place anywhere in Nottinghamshire. Where someone cannot safely be left alone, a second carer covers the break, and that carer has to live near the placement. We confirm at assessment whether we can staff that in your area.

The funding question depends on which side of a boundary you live
This catches people out, and no national provider will explain it to you.
Two separate councils are responsible for adult social care here. Nottingham City Council is a unitary authority. It runs its own adult social care inside the city boundary, for about 324,000 people. Nottinghamshire County Council covers everywhere else.
So the council you apply to depends on your postcode, not on whether you say you live “in Nottingham”:
- Clifton, Wollaton, Bulwell and Sherwood sit inside the city, so that is the city council.
- West Bridgford, Arnold, Carlton and Beeston feel like Nottingham to most people. They sit in Rushcliffe, Gedling and Broxtowe, so that is the county council.
- Mansfield, Worksop, Newark and the rest of the county are the county council.
Both follow the same two-stage process. First a needs assessment, then a financial assessment to work out what you pay. Our local authority funding page explains the savings limits and how your share is worked out.
If health needs are the main reason care is required, the route may be NHS Continuing Healthcare instead. That is assessed by the integrated care board rather than by either council.

Care is exempt from VAT under the welfare services rules, so nothing is added to those figures. The client provides the carer’s room and shares meals, which is why there is no separate accommodation charge.
Where a second carer is needed to cover the daily break, that is an additional charge, confirmed at assessment alongside the weekly figure. You get the full number in writing before anything is agreed.

What makes us different from the national brands
Most of the names you will find searching for live-in care in Nottinghamshire fall into one of two groups. Neither works the way families assume.
Introductory agencies connect you with a self-employed carer and take a fee for the introduction. Several of the largest live-in brands operate this way and are not themselves registered with the Care Quality Commission to provide personal care. The carer is self-employed, and the agency’s role largely ends once the introduction is made.
Franchise networks trade under a national brand. Each branch is a separate business, with its own owner, its own staff and its own CQC registration and rating. The brand on the van is not the organisation that employs your carer.
Helping at Home is neither. We are an independent, family-run provider based in Newark. Every carer is employed by the same company that holds the CQC registration. Courtney Pike, our Registered Manager, oversees every care plan in the county.
Our carers have been with us an average of more than two years. Continuity counts for most in live-in care, where the person shares their home with the carer.
